Bitsoil Popup Tax & Hack Campaign

BitSoil Popup Tax & Hack Campaign’ engages with one of the most pressing problems of the digital economy, the inequalities involved in the mining of user data by tech companies for profit – Christiane Paul about bitsoil.tax/campaign.

While using free Internet services, we generate data that big corporations use to earn a lot of money. More than 2.5 trillion bytes of data are generated daily. Every click, every Tweet, every post generates data that can be sold.

‘BitSoil Popup Tax & Hack Campaign’ proposes a new way of distributing Internet wealth by introducing the BitSoil currency. Twitter bots invite users to join the campaign by launching their own bots which will send digital postcards to either a CEO of one of the ten biggest tech firms or to the head of state of a country of choice. Through these interactions, new BitSoil value is created – printed receipts allow us to follow this process on-site.

The campaign is on tour across the world. After Brussels, Leuven, Linz, Wuhan, Berlin, Seoul, Peking ‘BitSoil Popup Tax & Hack Campaign’ hits ground in two world’s most famous cities: Shanghai in China and New York in USA.
